Spindle Press 12 litre
Ref: DP237
Our 12 litre spindle presses have a steel frame and legs coated with tough, baked-on white polyester coating, a wooden slatted body contained with steel hoops. Put a jug under the outlet lip to catch your juice. Liner bags available separately.
Simple inexpensive press.
Before Use
Before use the press should be dismantled and washed with warm soapy water. Unscrew the cross shaped nut and lift off the wooden blocks; the cylindrical cage can then be lifted off the base plate. After washing, rinse with fresh water, dry the spindle thread and lubricate it with petroleum jelly. The press is now ready for use.
Fruit Preparation
It is essential that fruit is prepared before pressing, ripe fruit is best. Apples must be reduced to a pulp, either by pounding with a large piece of clean wood or by using a fruit crusher. Food processors are not really suitable, as they tend to chop the fruit too finely. Grapes and other soft fruit must also be crushed to break the skins before processing.
Pressing
The press can be secured to a bench or board to give extra stability; position the press so that there is room under the outlet lip for a bucket to collect the juice. Place a suitable clean receptacle under the outlet lip.
Position the press cage centrally on the juice plate and fill with crushed fruit, using your fist to press it down firmly. Fill to within about an inch of the rim. Position the two half discs on top of the fruit, place the short cross blocks across the disc halves and the pressure block (with attached metal bracket) on top. Begin to screw the nut down by hand and as the pressure increases use the lever rod to turn the nut. Continue pressing until the flow of juice slows.
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WILL DAMAGE YOUR PRESS. If you are not getting any juice, it may be because the fruit is too big or just not ripe enough.
Unscrew the nut, remove the wooden blocks and lift the cage off the base - the compressed cake of fruit can than be punched out. If you are short of fruit it may be worth putting this pressed material to one side and combining it with the next batch of pressed fruit in a second pressing.
If you have only a small volume of fruit to press then increase the travel of the press by putting extra blocks across those supplied.
